Compos Lobby Chair by Samuli Naamanka

This compos lobby unique chair design is made from a 100% biodegradable natural fibre designed by Samuli Naamanka for the Finnish manufacturer, Piiroinen. The seat doesn’t contain any inorganic materials, not even binding substances. There aren’t even any oil based materials used in the chair. After the chair has been used for a long time, the seat material can be milled and used again for the production of a new product. At the end of the life cycle, the seat can also be demolished by composting it for about 80 days.

Wishbone Rocking Chair by Toby Howes

This simple lines and curves wishbone rocking chair is made out of maple and walnut with 900mm high 550mm wide and 1100mm long created by British furniture designer Toby Howes.

Description from the designer, Toby Howes:

I like to use different materials when designing new pieces, to give me an alternate view on shapes & textures, & this one started life as a couple of pipecleaners! It’s all about the lines &, from the side, you can see every curve mirrors the others to give an unusual silhouette for a rocking chair. Originally, it was constructed completely out of maple but, by adding the walnut into the supporting curves, the two-tone now draws the eye through the chair’s lines.

The shorter than usual rockers mean it doesn’t take up as much floor space & the design can be ‘au naturel’ or upholstered to your taste. Although the design is contemporary, the woods used can be changed to fit in with a more traditionally furnished home as well &, I’m told, the wishbone is especially comfortable for nursing mothers.

Afro Chair by Yangsoo Pyo

Yangsoo Pyo is the man behind this Afro Chair. Yangsoo Pyo, a korean designer have created this Afro Chair using Springs to visualize the tangled and puffed up texture of the afro hair.

From Yangsoo Pyo:

“Afro” is a chair that employed the image of the hair style “Afro Permanent hair.” Springs are used to visualize the tangled and puffed up texture of the afro hair. The springs used to create the “Afro chair” are the two-ring binder springs used to bind together a notebook. The two-ring binders do not get tangled but rather wraps around each other.

Therefore, there is no danger of destroying women’s stockings or knitwear. In fact the chair is very comfy. The manufacturing process of this chair begins with a simple iron frame. Then, the springs are used instead of the normal sponge and leather cover.

Ivy Chair by h220430 Design Studio

The Ivy Chair artificial white color chair ideas was designed by Satoshi Itasaka of the Japanese design studio h220430.

From the designers:

While living in the city where nature was excluded to the utmost limit, we tend to forget the fact that we depend on the power of nature and we do not remember it until natural disaster strikes. However, I believe that we should always appreciate nature and pay respect to it essentially.

By this artificial white color, “ivy chair” is merged into daily life without a sense of incompatibility. “Ivy chair” will make you feel comfortable as if you were surrounded by trees and flowers, Whenever you sit down in the chair and it will give you the signal to think about nature over the function as a chair.

The Erosio Chair By Hermann August Weizenegger

The Erosio Chair is a great seating design ideas created by German designer Hermann August Weizenegger as part of a group of works where Weizenegger worked together with traditionally trained craftsmen and programmers aided by data-based procedures. The aesthetic concept behind the work lies somewhere between functional design product and autonomous object

The Erosio chair emerged from a 3D design and acquires its shape from the layering and turning of material, in this case, layers of paper. As with the other designs, the designer started with the basics of the design sculpture Muse.

The compact arrangement of 900 sheets of paper lends the chair its solid state. A sintered component in the middle of the chair forms the core of a connecting system, to which four circular metal rods are fixed. These constitute the inner structure of the chair. The layers calculated on the computer which form the outer shape of the chair are threaded onto the round rods in an additive process. The individual paper layers are not all fixed to the chair’s legs so that the shape of the chair within the framework of its fixed inner construction can be lightly modified.

The aesthetic appeal of the chair’s finish is determined by sensual characteristics created by the electronic production process, but which in one way is similar to manual production. The precise laser technique with which the cardboard is cut leaves minimal burn marks, spots and fine fraying on the edges barely visible to the eye. As a result of these sutures, which are occasioned by the material and fully intended by the designer the chair assumes a material presence all of its own that is reminiscent of a natural material such as wood or sediment stone. In functional morphology, tectonic and geological layering like this can be found in connection with erosion discordance. The designer is consciously playing here with the demarcation line between nature and artifact.

The Etch Chair by Elizabeth Cordes

Designed by Elizabeth Cordes, an american based designer. This Etch chair was created to be part of the RE/BUILD exhibition at Brooklyn’s Gallery 1889. The Etch chair designed for the Brooklyn, New York manufacturer Material Process Systems (MPS).

Faced with a slowing economy and excess capacity, while having access to surplus materials, idle machinery, underutilized manpower, and a vacant storefront, MPS created the RE/BUILD challenge. Six designers were invited to design and develop products using only the resources available at the MPS shop. The furniture, sculpture, and objects of intrigue resulting from this collaborative endeavor have been put on display at Gallery 1889 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
